This Weekend has been a pretty tough one to take. I took to the start line of the NCRA 2 Day Stage Race which started on Saturday morning. The Race was contested over 3 Stages, with the first day taking place in the Leicestershire village of Middleton, and the second day heading to the village of Southwick in Northamptonshire.
Stage 1 was 2.7 mile Time Trial down a predominately flat road from the outside of Ashley to back down to the HQ in Middleton. I managed to clock a 6:15, taking 41st place.
In the afternoon, Stage 2 commenced around the locally well known Bringhurst Circuit. Unfortunately for me my luck for the day ran out and I was forced to stop due with a puncture after the first lap. With no neutral service available I was unable to complete the stage.
As soon as I dismounted the bike, I new it would be hard to race the 70 miles the following day knowing myself I had not technically completed the race. After talking with Kathryn, I decided not to continue with the next day. Instead I used the free time to do a 80%-20% training session which I have not done for a little while. A great but hard session completing 35 minutes worth of V02 Max efforts made it a productive morning. Although it was a very good session, it was a tough decision not to continue with the Stage Race as I did want to do it. However I do feel I made the right choice and used the time wisely.
Well done to friends both James Moore finishing in 6th place, and Joel Lewis finishing 5th Overall.
