Yesterday I traveled to Astley in the West Midlands to contest the Stourbridge CC Road Race. Having no knowledge of the area I was unsure what to expect, however I soon found out how tough it was going to be. Filled with fast descents and some hard climbs it was one of the hardest courses I have ridden.
As attempts were made to get a break the first two laps proved to be very fast, and eventually on the 2nd lap, four were allowed to go clear. Later they were joined with others managing to bridge across, the number of riders in the front group became nine. Two riders then made a move to get across on the last lap, and with one rider falling away towards the end, the final number became ten. I did think the break would be caught due to the course being so tough however, I was wrong and the managed to stay clear till the finish by a margin of a few seconds.
At the end I managed to take in 12th place on the day, coming 2nd in the bunch sprint. This will certainly be a race I remember and one I will hopefully come back to in the future.
