Oakley Road Race

This Saturday I contested the Oakley Road Race with club mates James Moore, and Ollie Taylor. located in Buckinghamshire near Aylesbury, made it a challenge to get to in itself with the A43 closed due to the F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. However fortunately I did get there with some time to spare.

With an full field of 80 riders and one short (but steep) climb at the finish, it would be difficult for anyone to make a break stick. That proved to be the case with the race coming down to a bunch sprint at the end.

I was well positioned on the climb, however I did not take full capability of this as I waited till the top to sprint the last 200m which proved to be wrong decision as it proved to be extremely difficult to pass anybody once over the top of the climb and into the wind. I therefor had to settle for 12th place, still a good result but left a little disappointed that I did not take full advantage of my position.

I am pleased to say congratulations to club mate James Moore who won the race. Also to Ollie Taylor taking 10th, meaning another great result for the Welland Valley CC team.
