On Saturday afternoon I made the short trip to Old to contest in the local NCRA Spring Handicap Series. The race was held at two o’clock, and was to be in the usual format of riders being set off in groups.
I was once again in the scratch group, with Tom Scott-Collins, Ollie Taylor, and Ollie Bates of Wellingborough Cycles and one other rider from Corley Cycles making 5 of us in total. We also had the usual time of around 7 to 8 minutes to catch the front of the race. Unfortunately, we were unable to make ground on the group in front of us who managed to instead put some time into us. After 1 3/4 laps of averaging over 26 mph, in what was like a Team Time Trial, we were losing riders with me being the third to get distanced. With the groups numbers lost we sadly were unable to catch the groups in front who had worked well together.
It was however a good training race for me and it was also nice to see lots of familiar faces around before, during, and after the race.
