On Saturday I made the trip to the Lee Velo Park for the CC Hackney Primavera Circuit Race. The start time was at 4pm which left plenty of time to travel. Making the trip down the M11 I was there an hour and a half early, this however turned out to be for the best as there were no available parking spaces left due to a track event being held at the same time! This meant I had to park in the Stratford Shopping Centre and make the 15 minute walk over to the Velo Park.
Once I arrived I signed on and managed to get a quick warm up in around the circuit with the race starting soon after. A fairly large field meant that moving around the bunch during the race was difficult so it was fairly important to try and maintain a position not to far off the front. A 4 man break went clear soon after the start however this was soon brought back and nothing else was allowed to escape meaning the finish came down to a bunch sprint. With the field being large I decided it was best to stay at the front riding in the wind to hold the position rather than risk being crowded in before the last few metres. This paid off as I was able to take 6th place on the line which I am very happy with.
It was the first time I have rode around the Velo Park and I have to say I think it is a great facility. The sign on and circuit is all quite a walk from the car park however there are free lockers available to avoid going back to the car. Throughout the day there was also other races held including juniors and womens.
