On Thursday night it was another time to head over to Mallory Park for the race series being held during the evenings. Having looked at the website for the details of the evening I found it was to be a Hilly Crit. This was a course that I have not ridden so I was looking forward to seeing how it would go.
After signing on I was able to warm up and ride a couple of laps before the race. Whilst warming up I found it was going to be a very technical course with tight corners making it challenging.
The race started at 7 and after a riders briefing at the start line from the commissionaire we were allowed to set off. The race was going to be a long one with over 40 laps scheduled.
As the race wore on attacks on the bunch were made to try and cause splits however noting was able to stay away until two riders were able to make it stick and build a good lead. Another four riders were able to get across to the break and it was bridged very quickly. The break then became six riders and although the lead was extended after the were able to get across inside 10 laps or so to go the break stopped working and they were brought back for the final stages of the race with one rider able to get away and stay up the road until the finish.
The bunch was then sprinting for 2nd place and in the final laps attempts to get away before the sprint and jostling for position was still being made. It was going to be a hard sprint uphill and after managing to get a good position into the final corner I was able to sprint to 2nd place.
It was a great result and it was the highest result on the road I have managed to take this year.
