On Sunday I traveled down to Ugley in Essex to ride in the Finsbury Park Road Race. Starting at 11:30am, I left home with Kathryn just after 9 to get there for 10:30. The race was also a Regional A which I am no longer eligible for, however on this occasion I entered before I got my 1st category licence which I achieved after the closing date of the race which meant I could ride.
I was also eligible for prizes but would not however score any licence points if I was able to get a placing at the end of the race.
After racing with James here last year, I new the circuit well and I had a feeling that it would come down to a bunch finish as it did last year despite the wind on the day. After many attacks throughout the race this was the case, and using my experience of coming 3rd place last year I was able to position myself well sheltering from the wind as much as possible before coming up to the exposed finishing climb.
Kicking as soon as I could see the finish at around 200m I am pleased to say I was able to get a good gap and take the win. It was my first victory on the road for just over 2 years and I am happy that it has happened just before the year comes to a close.
This win tops off what has been a great year. The full race report can be read on velo uk here
