On Sunday it was the Karbona Races held on Birmingham Business Park in Solihul, South Birmingham. A beautiful warm day, I was pleased that I had chose something short to do to avoid dehydration in the heat. There was also a stiff head wind on the finishing straight which played a big part in how the race panned out and made things a little difficult.
Within a few laps there was a large group up the road which formed from riders bridging over in one’s and two’s. On hesitating I did not bridge over and missed the opportunity when the gap became to big. With the break up the road there where various attacks to try and get away from the group we were in however nothing was able to stick with some riders clearly marked. This was until a few laps to go when another group formed and were able to make the move stick in the wind. Although in sight almost until the finish the gap was not bridgeable and with one lap to one rider managed to escape.
This meant the bunch sprint was for 14th place. I managed to cross the line in 18th. It was certainly a difficult race a what is a pan flat circuit however a lot of fun and one I enjoyed.
The race winner was Andy Bishop of Andy Moore Autocentres Racing.
